What is Jin Shin Jyutsu®?

Jin Shin Jyutsu® is a specialized art, often referred to as therapeutic/healing touch therapy or needle-less acupuncture. The Jin Shin Jyutsu® philosophy is about balancing or harmonizing body, mind and spirit all at once. Originating in Japan, this ancient art is a time-honored method of healing which releases bodily tensions that manifest in various symptoms. In ancient times, traditional people saw no distinction between body, mind and spirit. Their practices were used to assist the body naturally to promote physical, emotional and spiritual wholeness.

How Jin Shin Jyutsu® Works:

The body contains energy pathways that feed life into all cells; when one or more of these paths become blocked, the "dammed up" effect can lead to physical and/or emotional discomfort or pain.

By "listening" to 12 pulses and assessing your body mechanics, a JSJ practitioner at Health by Design is able to address the areas of the body that have blocked energy, typically causing pain or discomfort. The Jin Shin Jyutsu® practitioner then applies light pressure to various parts of the body eliminating blockages and balancing energy flow.

Your Jin Shin Jyutsu® Appointment:

When you visit our office, our Jin Shin Jyutsu® practitioner will ask a brief series of questions to understand your health needs. She will assess your physical state using body listening, how your physical body naturally lies, and "listening" to 12 pulses felt in the wrists. All of this helps to determine at what level, or depth, your needs are located.

While you lie on a table, the practitioner applies light pressure to various parts of your body (over clothing), called flows or holds, to eliminate blockages. This technique re-harmonizes and balances energy flow, promoting healing. There is no massage, manipulation of muscles or use of drugs or substances. Sessions last approximately 50 minutes. After the hands on session, you will be given self help tips to learn to continue your healing in between scheduled Jin Shin Jyutsu® sessions.

How often should I consider Jin Shin Jyutsu® sessions?

Because sessions are individualized, it will depend on your needs. For major health projects, it would work well to schedule weekly sessions or even daily sessions to promote healing from within. For emotional or chronic physical projects, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended as needed. Once balanced, monthly maintenance can be done to keep all the energy pathways unblocked or simply apply the self help techniques learned for your specific needs.
